Beautiful Vintage 1970s Art Nouveau style. Limited Edition Mixed Metal Bronze Sculpture. (Cold Cast Resin Metal). Nude Woman on Leaf. BEAUTIFUL vintage 1978 Giovanni Schoeman bronze sculpture with 4 colors. This fine piece measures approximately 5.75 inches x 2. This lovely bronze sculpture features a beautiful sleeping nude woman on a textured leaf, with fantastic detailing! The sculpture is signed on the side, “Giovanni Schoeman 261/1000,’78”. Condition is good with average wear. What a great gift, or wonderful addition to your Art Nouveau style sculptures, or 1970s art collection this could be! Schoeman was a sculptor of extraordinary creative ability. In the late 1960`s he contributed to the recently created technique of producing `Cold Cast Resin Metal`. `Cold-Cast Bronze` is a composition of 85 to 87% bronze powder with a resin binder. The metal powder is mixed into the resin to form a creamy mixture which is poured in to a mold. The resulting cast is one with an appearance of solid metal. Different metal powders such as bronze, brass, nickel and copper can be used depending on the effect desired. The remaining cavity is then filled with plain resin to give stability. In the late 1960`s Schoeman used this technique in his studio in London. He soon expanded to a factory with apprentices in neighboring Kentish Town. By the late 1970s Schoeman moved to Santa Barbara, California. Initially he set up business with Carl Edward Zehner. Their company intended to produce large scale art however this never got off the ground which would later lead to Schoeman`s demise. Mysteriously in 1981 Schoeman was murdered by a hit man in a triple homicide which included his girlfriend and a business partner from another venture. Schoeman has a substantial and very loyal following of collectors. Major commissions in the industry include sculptures for Rolls Royce, The British Museum and a piece for the movie Rocky II, and his work appears in private collections including those of Sylvester Stallone, Burgess Meredith, Elizabeth Montgomery, Carl Weathers, Billy Preston and Dizzy Gillespie.
